Follow on Google News | Water quality of groundwater in Haridwar, UttarakhandBy: Netsolwater Groundwater is mostly used water in cities and villages and for many purposes. All the sectors, whether industrial, agricultural or domestic, are dependent on it. In the district, there are many industries generating toxic effluents which started contaminating the groundwater of the district. Groundwater quality of Haridwar shows high concentrations of Chloride, Sulfate and Nitrate. To removes such IONs ION exchange systems can be used or we can also use an Effluent Treatment Plant on large scale. For assessing the groundwater quality, the water samples were collected from 40 sites covering the entire district for the period of 1 year 2013-14 and analyzed in Laboratory of Central Groundwater Board (CGWB), Dehradun. The groundwater was assessed against all the parameters - pH, Total Dissolved Solids, Total Hardness, Fluoride, Chloride, Sulfate and Nitrate. The result after the computation was good as 95% groundwater samples qualified in the category of 'good to excellent' and rest 5% groundwater samples require treatment. But to prevent further contamination close watch needs to be kept on the groundwater utilization in the district as the industrialization and agricultural activities are growing day by day.
