Bikeday hosts a Children's Push Bike Competition, for aspiring riders from two to six years old. The second day offers the Sun Moon Lake Fun Ride, a 10 kilometre route around the lake when visitors can take in the sights whilst on two wheels. There is also the Round the Lake Challenge Ride, a 30 kilometre cycle for riders who are a little more serious. Finally, visitors can push their limits with the Sun Moon Lake Songboling Challenge, an 85 kilometre route which takes riders through the Jiji Green Tunnel, along Route 139 and returning to the Xiangshan visitor centre. The events culminate with the Come! Bikeday Fair, a celebratory event with unicycle clown performances, flywheel rhythmic dance and indigenous tribal dance performances. http://www.sunmoonlake.gov.tw/ 2 - Formosa 900 4th - 13th November The Formosa 900 is a nine-day round-island cycling tour, involving a total of eleven teams from all over Taiwan who will set-off from seven different locations. This tour is at a leisurely pace so as to ensure cyclists soak up the stunning landscape on the way, including the East Rift Valley. Running from north to south through the pristine Hualien and Taitung counties, the East Rift Valley is framed by the majestic Central and Coastal Mountain ranges and has side roads and bike paths perfect for cyclists of all abilities. theme.taiwanbike.tw/ 3 - Taiwan KOM Challenge 28th October The Taiwan King of the Mountain Challenge – shortened to Taiwan KOM Challenge – departs on 28th October, with 400 cyclists taking part, from amateur cyclists to professional riders from outside Taiwan. Participants will climb from altitude zero at Qixingtan in Hualien to 3,275 meters at Hehuan Mountain; the route includes a great variety of amazing scenery, making this a unique extreme cycling challenge. At 10,700 feet the final climb through the scenic valleys to the finish at the summit of Hehuan Mountain in Huling is one of the steepest courses in competitive cycling. 4 - Sun Moon Lake Marathon October 30th Visitors can warm up for the Sun Moon Lake Come! Bikeday by running the Sun Moon Lake Marathon on October 30th. Visitors can choose whether to run the full marathon or opt for the half-marathon option. Both routes go around the lake and runners will see sights such as the Meihe Garden, Wenwu Temple and Syuanzang temple. No matter how daring they choose to be, there is an opening ceremony beforehand to welcome participants in true Taiwanese style. 5 - Fireworks Music Festival October 14th – November 13th The idyllic Sun Moon Lake comes alive with the adornment of dazzling firework displays and energetic music every year as part of celebrations for holidaymakers and 2016 promises to be equally captivating when the festival kicks off on October 14th. The month-long festival is free to all visitors and will play host to musical performances, orchestra pieces, dance acts and cinematic productions all set against the reflection of the lake's crystalline surface.
