SANREMO, Italy - Oct. 20, 2016 - PRLog -- When sport becomes literature. All this happened with a book which, perhaps, is unique, original and very lyrical inside its own nature. This book, currently released in free ebook format,  is titled Undeground Double Play and has been written by the Italian author Giovanni Tommasini. The book is, in reality, a collection of biographical tales about  the rise of an Italian baseball team from an underground parking in Sanremo to the US. Published in an Italian magazine, Baseballmania, these tales conquered the heart of Italian readers so much to be turned into an ebook. Later,  the same ebook has been translated into English to cheer the heart of foreign readers.
But Undeground Double Play is not only a collection of short biographical stories, but a heartfelt mix of memories relating to a group of Italian baseball players. Among them, there was also the author. Giovanni is indeed a former baseball player coming from a family of the Italian middle class.  In Italy, when you talk about the middle class, you also discuss about normal people who struggle every day to survive. Fortunately, Giovanni Tommasini went beyond that, and in the late 1970s,  along with other brilliant guys in Sanremo, the beautiful Ligurian town of the flowers , he met baseball and joined The Tomato Baseball Club.
No-one ever wrote an excellent book on baseball before Giovanni Tommasini. That is why he is by now defined the first great baseball writer in Italy. In the book, the author tells about practices in Pian di Poma, a lot parking in Sanremo. There never was the sunlight in the winter, but an underground and wet camp also called catacomb. Indeed, the young players were also called the catacomb guys.  In that Italian field, The Tomato baseball club learned the passion to grow up and fight and the love for baseball.
A great passion always makes great results and this Italian team gave birth to famous Italian baseball players such as Fulvio Valle, Matteo Arieta and Stefano Balestracci.  Indeed, the ebook is subtitled:The American Dream of Tomato baseball club - The true story of the little unwitting baseball heroes from an underground parking ... Sanremo late seventies to Major League.
Underground Double Play does not tell only an American dream, but a great dream, the one about the right to achieve our goals without injustice or shortcuts. Every tale is not only an excellent lesson about this sport, but a touching lesson of life, where words are often intertwined with marvelous and unforgettable quotes of Italian and American singers and poets.
Baseball is not only the game of pitch and catch, beat and run, but a path to delve into yourself, to discover the beauty of life and forget the hell. Yes, some moments of these Italian guys were made of sadness and solitude, but only if you go through the hell, you can reach the heaven. These feelings are described through biting sketches of high literature, such as the words of Dante Alighieri, Italo Calvino and Alberto Moravia.
Underground Double Play is just this: a wonderful dream turned into reality, a passion written like a song, a flow of words and memories seasoned with touching emotions, like the one of the chapter dedicated to Agostino Liddi, the great Alex Liddi, an Italian player coming from the baseball field in Sanremo who became a famous baseball player in the U.S. That is why the Ligurian field is also called the diamond, because from there, many players got a refulgent sport career even abroad. Yes, this is a heavenly book that made baseball not only a sport to be played, but also to be read.

About the author: Giovanni Tommasini was born in Sanremo, in October of 1966. Graduated in Political Sciences at the Genova University in 1994, the author has many passions, among these, reading and writing books, baseball and also the social interest. Today, indeed, Giovanni Tommasini works as a home care assistant for teenagers affected from severe brain disorders.
