'Round' Cape Horn in Patagonia with Llama Travel

BASINGSTOKE, U.K. - Oct. 20, 2016 - PRLog -- Llama Travel has created a unique opportunity to 'round' Cape Horn and explore one of the remotest places on the planet.

The three-night cruise, which forms part of the adapted Best of Chile & Argentina  trip, commences in Tierra del Fuego on day 13 of the itinerary, aboard the 100-cabin Stella Australis adventure cruise ship.

Departing in the evening, the cruise travels from Ushuaia, in Argentina, to Punta Arenas, in Chile. Travel via Cape Horn, passing wind-swept islands home to squawking penguin colonies and grunting sea lions, and towering glaciers which dwarf not only people, but ships.

Sail through the Beagle Channel, along the edge of Tierra del Fuego, and across the Strait of Magellan – a once-treacherous journey undertaken by adventurers for centuries. Today it is a comfortable cruise experience, complete with cocktail evenings, but maintains the element of adventure thanks to the striking surrounds.

There will be plenty of opportunities to spot whales, dolphins, penguins, condors, seals and more, and to learn about the explorers who have also travelled these iconic waters.

Other highlights of the holiday will include:

● Santiago, Chile's modern capital, spectacularly enveloped as it is by the snow-capped Andes.

● Perito Moreno glacier; 30km in length and with 60-metre high walls of ice, the walkways are close enough that you can hear the ice cracking and see huge pieces breaking off and crashing into the water.

● Torres del Paine National Park with its soaring peaks, glacial valleys and wild grasslands and wildlife including guanacos (a type of llama), rheas (South American ostriches), condors, foxes and rare pumas

● An exploration of Buenos Aires and San Telmo, the oldest barrio (neighbourhood), characterised by its colonial buildings, cafes, tango parlours & antique shops.
