Rory McIlroy Named Hickok Belt(R) Award Winner for September 2016

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Oct. 18, 2016 - PRLog -- Professional golfer Rory McIlroy has been named the Hickok Belt(R) Award winner for the month of September 2016. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The voters selected McIlroy based on his exciting victory at the TOUR Championship, which also gave him the 2016 FedEx Cup Title. The TOUR Championship was McIlroy's second victory in three weeks and made him the first player to win four FedEx Cup playoff events.

Other finalists for the month of September in order of how the NSMA voters ranked them included: Jon Lester (baseball), Stan Wawrinka (tennis), Sidney Crosby (hockey), Angelique Kerber (tennis), Matt Ryan (football), Freddie Freeman (baseball), AJ Green (football), Canelo Alvarez (boxing), and Inn Gee Chun (golf).

His selection as the Hickok Belt(R) Award winner for the month of September 2016 recognizes Rory McIlroy as "the best of the best" in professional sports for the month and makes him the ninth candidate eligible to receive the overall Hickok Belt(R) Award for 2016, joining Serena Williams, LeBron James, Clayton Kershaw, Jake Arrieta, Novak Djokovic, Steph Curry, Jason Day and Michael Phelps.
