NEW YORK - Oct. 18, 2016 - PRLog -- Versasec, the leader in smart card management systems, introduced vSEC:CMS S-Series version 4.6 today, featuring updates and improvements that include a pre-login user self-service feature. vSEC:CMS S4.6 also adds a built-in connector to the DigiCert Certificate Authority (CA) and the ability to manage Charismatics Virtual Smart Cards.

Specific functionality enhancements announced today with vSEC: CMS S4.6 include the following:
* The Windows Credential Provider, available for Windows 7 and up, enables vSEC:CMS user self-service features directly from the Windows logon screen, without having to log in.
* Updated altSecurityIdentities user attributes in the Active Directory -- as part of smart card lifecycle operations -- enables multiple user credentials to be connected to one Windows user account.
* Smart card stock/inventory management functionality enables customers to securely manage their stock of not yet used/issued smart cards, making it easier to determine timing around additional smart card purchases or the need for moving inventory from one location to another.
* New built-in hardware security module (HSM) connector to the Gemalto SafeNet ProtectServer HSM.

In a recent poll of vSEC:CMS customers, users said they rely heavily on the identification and access management solution to unblock and change user PINs, to connect to Microsoft Active Directory, and for connections to the Certificate Authority. Other top uses included remotely unblocking user pins, performing certificate lifecycle management, creating PIN policy updates, connecting to the mail server and facilitating user self-service card renewals.

"From the largest enterprise and government agency to very small companies, one of the most effective means for combating hackers is with multi-factor authentication. Using smart cards as the means for achieving that authentication is also very cost effective," said Joakim Thorén, CEO of Versasec. "With vSEC:CMS, we make managing smart cards an easy and intuitive process, so companies can adopt smart cards without the headaches."
