Study Says, Women Who Choose Abortion Are Certain Of the Decision

DUBLIN, Ga. - Oct. 15, 2016 - PRLog -- A recent report stated that women seeking abortion tend to be more certain of the procedure even after it has ended than any other health care decisions. Some states require mandatory wait, counseling sessions and ultrasounds that are only there for giving women time to think about going through the procedure.

The reports, however, suggest a completely new perspective on female psychological condition while going through the abortion.  The study includes that those who choose to go through abortion have very little uncertainty once they have reached the clinic.

The researchers involved in the study stated that those going through an abortion usually have high levels of certainty compared to the levels found of men and women seeking procedures for other health care problems. Issues like those of mastectomy after breast cancer diagnoses or decision to undergo pre-natal testing after infertility or having knee surgery were harder to decide for respective patients.

They also stated that the research conclusions directly challenge the notion that decision for pregnancy termination is an exceptional procedure that requires extra protection where the state laws have to dictate compulsory waiting periods and counseling. These counseling have been proven to be anti-abortion oriented whose purpose is to prevent women from making an unconsidered decision.

Anti-pro abortion debate

In a recent political debate, vice presidential candidates discussed the 'appropriateness' of pregnancy termination restrictions where an advocate suggested that he would trust women to make the right decision for themselves.

Another report analyzed decisional certainty among 500 females who wanted pregnancy cancellation at four family planning centers. All completed surveys, and two-third of them answered follow-up questions on phones later. Clinic in this state required them to read up on information right there at the clinic under supervision from the provider at least three days prior to receiving termination. During the first visit, she will be required to participate in a study including a survey containing 20 items to rate designed to access how conflicted/certain or informed were the women taking the decision to abort.

Most of the candidates from the study were 25 years or older, white and prior to this didn't have any children.  Majority of them also were in a school, employed and in a relationship / married to the man involved in the pregnancy. The study also found that more than half of them strongly agreed with most things higher on the certainty scale – these include 'I expect to stick to stick to my decision/I know there are alternate options available and I choose this' and 'this decision was easy for me to make'.

According to the report, women deciding to buy abortion pills too have high decisional scores. As the success rates for such terminations are too 95-97% very few women are uncertain before deciding to buy Mifepristone and Misoprostol.

According to the follow up interviews, out of 267, 89% of did return for abortion after the mandatory wait.  Researchers also stated that laws aimed at preventing women from the procedure, presume that all of them are conflicted about their decision which is not always true.
