Over US$45 billion of deals make Telecom M&A Deal of the Year 2016 shortlist

 
LONDON - Oct. 14, 2016 - PRLog -- Six telecom mergers and acquisitions, worth a combined total of over US$45bn, have been shortlisted for the Telecom M&A Deal of the Year 2016 Award, which will be presented to telecom operators and their banking advisers at the TMT Finance World Awards Dinner 2016 (http://www.tmtfinance.com/world/awards) in London on November 30.

European telcos BT, Vodafone and Altice, US cable and telecom group Liberty Global and South East Asian operator Axiata were selected to have led the stand out deals of the year in telecoms. The total value of deals on the list is over double last year's top six of US$19bn, signifying another bumper year for global telecoms M&A.

Key advisers on the shortlist include Goldman Sachs, Barclays, Citi, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, UBS, JP Morgan, BNP Paribas, LionTree, Lazard, Robey Warshaw, Guggenheim, Evercore and PJT Partners.

Shortlists will also be announced for Awards for Media, Telecom Towers and Tech Deals of the Year, as well as TMT M&A and Legal Adviser, Financing Bank, Leadership and Growth Story. The shortlists were selected by leading global TMT M&A and financing news provider, TMT Finance, with nominations provided by readers of the publication.

On the Telecom Deal of the Year category, Altice Group of France's entry into the US with a US$17.7bn acquisition of Cablevision, is the highest valued deal on the shortlist, followed by BT's return to mobile with the acquisition of EE in the UK for E12.5bn.

The winner for all 8 categories will be selected by a Judges' Panel comprising of 15 of the most experienced and active TMT bankers and advisers globally and presented at the Grange Hotel St Paul's London on November 30, following TMT Finance World Congress 2016 (http://www.tmtfinance.com/world).

Telecom M&A Deal of the Year 2016 shortlist:

BT Group's acquisition of EE in the UK for E12.5bn.

Goldman Sachs advised BT. Barclays and Citi advised Deutsche Telecom. Bank of America Merrill Lynch advised Orange.

Liberty Global / Vodafone merger in the Netherlands for E3.5bn.

Lion Tree and Goldman Sachs advised Liberty Global. Morgan Stanley, Robey Warshaw and UBS advised Vodafone.

Liberty Global's acquisition of Base in Belgium for E1.33bn.

Goldman Sachs advised Liberty. JP Morgan advised KPN.

Altice's acquisition of Cablevision in the US for US$17.7bn.

JP Morgan, BNP Paribas and Barclays advised Altice. Cablevision was advised by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Guggenheim Securities and PJT Partners.

Axiata's acquisition of NCell from TeliaSonera and Visor Capital in Nepal for US$1.36bn.

UBS advised Telia; JP Morgan advised Axiata; Lazard advised Visor Capital.

Liberty Global's acquisition of Cable & Wireless Communications in The Americas for US$7.4bn.

Lion Tree and Goldman Sachs advised Liberty. JP Morgan and Evercore advised CWC.
