T-Shirt Startup Launches Online Sales to Help Hurricane Damaged Lowcountry

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Oct. 13, 2016 - PRLog -- Carolina Coast Tees officially launched this past week by opening up their website to online sales in the hopes of also helping a community in need. Hurricane Matthew motivated Carolina Coast's owner, Sandy Snyder, to speed up production on one of her designs in an effort to fundraise for the new T-shirt company's namesake, the Carolina Coast.

The Carolina Lowcountry was devastated by the effects of Hurricane Matthew when it rolled through South Carolina last week. "The damage was much worse than I thought it would be," Snyder stated. "When I saw the photos of Hilton Head, and Harbour Town, it made me so sad to see this place I love totally torn apart with docks destroyed, and trees down on so many homes. I wanted to do something to help the community repair, and with my new business being inspired by this place I hold so close to me, I felt an obligation to do something."

Snyder created the company last January, and admits it's been a slow, but fun learning process. She never owned a business before, but the idea for Carolina Coast Tees came to her earlier this year, and she felt compelled to see it through to completion. Currently living in Philadelphia, Snyder grew up in South Carolina. Hilton Head Island is a home away from home for her, and her inspiration for the t-shirt designs. "The Hilton Head look is so preppy, classic and beachy. I wanted a t-shirt that reflected that style, and Carolina Coast Tees was born," she says. She has now incorporated other destinations of the Carolina Coast into her designs. "I was getting interest in people from North Carolina as well, so I didn't want to leave them out. I created some new shirts for people who live or travel to all these destinations. I want my shirts to not only be seen as a brand, but also as a souvenir for people who want to take home a piece of their favorite place."

She's been building the company while also raising her kids and working her day job. "I would like to see things moving faster, but I'm trying to do this on my own, with my own funds," says Snyder. "Starting a t-shirt business is not easy to get off the ground; it takes determination, a little luck, but mostly money. I have the determination, and I believe you make your own luck, but the money part, well, I'm doing what I can. This is why the process has been slow, and my ability to roll out the designs has not been as dynamic as I would have preferred." Her shirts are all available for wholesale ordering, but having the funds to keep an inventory is going to take some time.

Snyder was in the process of printing one of her designs to sell online the week that Hurricane Matthew slammed into the East Coast, and she decided that offering the shirts as a way to fundraise for disaster relief would be the right thing to do. She sped up her production to get the word out. If getting a cute t-shirt out of a donation motivates people to contribute, then great," says Snyder. "I still have quite a bit of inventory in stock, and I'm hoping that I can make a generous donation to The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry through my online sales," she says. "I just want to see all the homes and businesses get back to normal life in the Lowcountry, and I want to help in whatever small way possible. I also hope people can see my shirts around town, and know the people wearing them contributed to the disaster relief through their purchase."
