Follow on Google News | New Gas Kiln added to The Center for Contemporary Art Ceramics ProgramUnder the direction of Elie Porter Trubert, Executive Director, four years ago The Center hired John Reinking to lead the ceramics program. Mr. Reinking and his team of talented teaching artists have grown the program to offer a broad range of classes for the community. The new gas kiln joins a ceramics studio already outfitted with two electric kilns, a slab roller and specially designed hand-building table. The program is also proud to have the area's only wheelchair-accessible pottery wheel, allowing everyone to participate. The addition of the new gas kiln takes The Center's ceramics program to the next level and establishes The Center for Contemporary Art as the "go to" place for ceramics offering a versatility of firing not found in any other community art centers. "The acquisition of this gas kiln has been a long time in coming and would not have been possible without the generosity of Hyde & Watson Foundation, The E.J. Grossman Trust and individual donations from The Center's students. We are thankful to everyone who has supported this project and are excited about the new classes, workshops and opportunities we will be able to offer our students" says Executive Director, Elie Porter Trubert. The Center's ceramics program offers classes for children and adults at all levels of expertise during the fall, winter, and spring semesters and the area's only ceramics summer camp.
