Orlando, FL. β September 30, 2016 β Seniors First, Inc., a local nonprofit dedicated to helping seniors maintain their health and independence, is seeking the community's assistance in filling the immediate need for additional volunteers to cover Meals on Wheel program routes. Meals on Wheels provides meals and outreach to seniors who are unable to prepare or have meals otherwise provided. The program offers more than food to many seniors βit provides a safety check and gives them a human connection and an opportunity to combat isolation. There are eight pick-up areas in the greater Orlando area, and currently the organization is in need of 50 volunteers to fill 50 Meals on Wheels routes. The Seniors First team works to coordinate routes for volunteers that are conveniently located near their home or office. The commitment is once per week, for approximately 1.5 - 2 hours on weekday mornings. The opportunity is open to both individuals and group or corporate group volunteers. A group of volunteers may commit to a route together, alternating weeks, making it perfect for corporate teambuilding and community outreach. Therefore, if you commit four volunteers to one route, it would equate to one morning per month for each volunteer. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid driver's license and insurance, as well as reliable transportation. Each volunteer commits to a one-hour training session and a level one background check.
