By: The Oscar and Ella Wilf Campus for Senior Living Over 70 participants from the Oscar and Ella Wilf Campus for Senior Living joined in the walk on September 22, 2016. The entire community, which includes Stein Assisted Living, The Wilentz Senior Residence and The Stein Hospice, raised over $1300 this year, with donations still coming in. According to Randi Rosen, Director of Marketing and organizer of the event, the proceeds benefitting Alzheimer's New Jersey are used towards research to eradicate the disease, helping families coping with the disease, offering support groups for caregivers and providing respite stays for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients. "Those of us who live, work and visit the campus are all touched by Alzheimer's Disease in some way," comments Rosen. "We raise money through various efforts including sales of baked goods, cookbooks, and craft items made by our residents, as well as personal and online donations via a dedicated website, https://alznj.akaraisin.com/ Walking together, pushing wheelchairs, having a hand to hold or joining in a sing-a-long, the spirit of the group was palpable. "We all get so much more than we give," says Rosen. "It is always inspiring to see what we can do as a group. The seniors are able to find satisfaction and purpose and feel productive in giving back to the community." Anna Simmons, RN,C, CIC, CALA, Executive Director of Stein Assisted Living, echoes this sentiment. "We all need to have meaning in our lives and to feel a sense of purpose," she states. "Many of our residents were philanthropic before they came to live at Stein Assisted Living and believe strongly in the value of volunteering. Through the Stein Philanthropy Club residents are able to continue to support worthy causes in numerous ways, including the Walk for Alzheimer's." The Annual Walk for Alzheimer's is especially meaningful on the Wilf Campus as there are residents suffering from the disease and many staff members who have had a family member affected. Rosen estimates that approximately 30 percent of the population on campus are impacted by Alzheimer's disease. The Walk for Alzheimer's is especially moving as it is a campus-wide morning of coming together for the benefit of others and reminds residents and staff that they are in the fight together. The Oscar and Ella Wilf Campus for Senior Living is comprised of Stein Assisted Living Residence, the Jaffa Gate Memory Care Neighborhood, Stein Hospice, Wilentz Senior Residence, Wilf Transport, and The Foundation at the Wilf Campus.
