AUSTIN, Texas - Oct. 11, 2016 - PRLog -- In a time where so much is changing in Austin, a pair of established local entertainment brands are partnering to celebrate Austin talent and lifestyle: Austin Variety Show is celebrating its 7th anniversary entertaining Austin audiences in person, on television, and online at Austin institution Esther's Follies. The festivities, which will take place Sunday, October 23rd from 7-10pm, will feature some of Austin's brightest comedy and music talents, as well as burlesque performances and a live game show, featuring members of the studio audience. Attendees will also be treated to dinner, compliments of several Austin eateries.

Austin Variety Show is the brainchild of longtime Austinite Troy Dillinger, a musician/comedian/community activist who grew up in Austin and has traveled the world as a performer and unofficial ambassador of Austin talent. "Austin has changed so much in the time we've been doing the show, but we try to preserve our way of life, and show new Austinites what's gone into making Austin so special," said Dillinger.

After parting company with Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, Dillinger launched the show in 2009. The first episodes were shot in local venues Spider House Ballroom & The Highball before moving to a series of theater spaces, outgrowing each. Austin Variety Show was last housed in a 250-seat space in ACC's Highland Mall, where it shot over 20 episodes. Dillinger is currently raising capital for a new theater location and content portal, while shopping a version of Austin Variety Show for national syndication. The show first ran for several years on local broadcast station KBVO, a member of the LIN Broadcasting/KXAN/NBC family.

Esther's Follies is an Austin comedy icon, originating in the wake of Saturday Night Live's original run, and continuing for over 35 years, itself the subject of multiple national TV shows. Follies creator Shannon Sedwick welcomed Dillinger's show into its 6th Street home, saying, "We want to make sure that we variety shows stick together and support each other. Troy's built a solid brand with Austin Variety Show, and we're excited by the mutual energy this event creates." The local entertainment institution is currently the subject of a biographical publication by another Austin legend, writer Jesse Sublett.
