OCEANSIDE, N.Y. - Oct. 7, 2016 - PRLog -- In response to the area's need for a community-based healthcare practice devoted specifically to the treatment of men's and women's urinary tract and reproductive organ health problems, South Nassau Communities Hospital is seeking approval from the Village of Rockville Centre to convert a vacant building that South Nassau owns at 510 Merrick Rd. to a free-standing Center for Urologic Health.

"There is a need for these services both for women and men in our community and this facility will be designed to provide this specialized care, close to home for our patients," said Richard J. Murphy, president and CEO at South Nassau. "These centers will be able to provide the specialized treatments and care needed to address what are often sensitive urologic health problems."

The Centers will offer the array of advanced technologies and therapies to treat the range of urologic disorders and diseases afflicting women and men.  South Nassau chose a community-based location for the center to facilitate patients' access of their physicians as well as the center's board-certified physicians and patient-centered advances in urologic care. The location is also just a few blocks from the hospital's main campus in Oceanside.

The building's interior is being completely remodeled with new, comfortable furnishings, and the exterior will be improved with new lighting, landscaping and a resurfaced parking lot with 21 spaces reserved for patients and physicians only.

South Nassau physicians and staff currently provide these services in different locations, including Valley Stream. By consolidating in one location, patients will have easy access to the experts and specialists they need in a private setting.

"We will provide the therapies and treatments that will enable women to gain control over urologic health problems that are not only detrimental to their health and wellness, but also demoralizing and restrictive," said Alan Garely, MD, chief of South Nassau's obstetrics and gynecology department.  "You don't need to travel into the city any longer to receive this type of highly specialized care. We have the experts right here in our new Rockville Centre location."

Dr. Garely is one of the country's leading experts on pelvic floor reconstruction for women facing pelvic organ prolapse, a condition that occurs when the muscles of the pelvic floor are weakened or damaged, often due to childbirth.

Michael Herman, MD, director of urology at South Nassau, said the very latest techniques are being used at South Nassau to address issues like prostate cancer. South Nassau is one of the only hospitals in Nassau County to offer MRI-Ultrasound Targeted Biopsy, an innovative new technology for more precise and accurate detection of prostate cancer.  "We have the experience and resources so that most men with urologic health problems can maintain a healthy and vibrant life at any age," said Dr. Herman.

As the leading provider of healthcare services in the South Shore of Nassau County, South Nassau has been focused on establishing community-based satellite healthcare centers to increase residents' access to specialized healthcare services that they need.  If the urology center is approved, it will be part of South Nassau's system of specialty satellite healthcare centers, which includes the Center for Cardiac Rehabilitation (Oceanside); Center for Advanced Orthopedic Surgery (Oceanside); Center for Sleep Medicine (Hewlett); Center for Women's Imaging(Oceanside); Long Island Gamma Knife (Oceanside); Minimally Invasive Surgery Center (Hewlett); Mental Health Counseling Center (Baldwin); Center for Weight & Life Management (Hewlett); Center for Prostate Health (Oceanside); Outpatient Dialysis Center (Oceanside); SIBSPlace (Hewlett); South Nassau Cancer Center (Valley Stream); South Nassau Family Medicine (Oceanside); South Nassau Family Medicine (Long Beach); South Nassau Home Care (Baldwin); South Nassau Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Therapy (SMART) Center (Oceanside); South Nassau Primary Medical Care (Bellmore); and Wound Care Center (Oceanside).
