All four house bands, including Unwind, Catalyst, Wolfpack and the newest addition, Vibe, will appear at Mater Dei High School's Octoberfest, on October 22, at Mater Dei campus at 538 Church Street, Middletown. They also were recently showcased at Middletown Township's annual Middletown Day. Rock'n Music Academy developed their house band program for advanced student musicians seven years ago. Each year, Rock'n Music Academy owner and professional recording artist Howard Lee Edwards, Jr. holds auditions for any available spots, typically as house band members graduate from high school and complete the Academy's high school music program. "It's my goal to give my advanced students the chance to be involved in a professional level program," said Edwards. "That includes auditions, creating set lists, a structured rehearsal schedule and regularly scheduled gigs," he said. Each house band plays a mix of both classic rock and alternative rock music, with each band having their own variation. The bands develop their sound by playing cover songs, but Edwards' objective is having them progress to writing and performing their own original material. "This is what sets our program apart from others," Edwards said. The bands play throughout the year at a variety of events, such as The Light of Day festival at The Stone Pony, the New Jersey Marathon, Red Bank's Riverfest, as well as local open mike nights at Jamian's, Red Bank.
