Botox for Headaches and Migraine Treatment Increases as Popularity Rises

Botox for Headaches and Migraines is an approved treatment for the alleviation of tension headaches, offered by Dermaskin Clinics in Chester and Manchester

MANCHESTER, U.K. - Oct. 6, 2016 - PRLog -- When painkillers and other methods of migraine treatment aren't cutting it, many headache suffers are now turning to an increasingly popular treatment they often never associated with, or expected could help the condition – botox. Most commonly linked with treatment for temporary reduction of wrinkles and frown lines, Botulinum Toxin can help to reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches. We caught up with Dr Vik who treats patients with Botox for Headaches at top skincare clinic Dermaskin Chester, a haven for migraine sufferers within the old city walls.

"Botox injections into the scalp, head and back of the neck can be customised to the patient's needs, depending on where they are experiencing pains. The full treatment is 31 injections, but many don't need that many and the whole treatment is over and done with in under an hour."

He continued "Tension headaches can plague patients lives, so its great to have a treatment which can help people live a more normal life. Botox  works by removing the trigger mechanisms that cause the problem in the first place. It takes Botox a few days to start working but it can sometimes take as long as 14-21 days for the full paralysing effects to show through. The results can last 3-6 months, depending on the patient."

We asked Dr Vik what causes headaches and migraines. "Working too long and staring hard at a computer all day. Driving in the sun. There are many causes, but it's mainly overuse of muscles caused by hyperactive forehead muscles especially the frown area, between the eyebrows."

Before calling off he suggested "Another thing to check is whether you are keeping yourself hydrated with plenty of water, not just tea – that's a very common cause. Your body and brain need water." Studies have shown that Botox can help reduce the intensity and frequency, and in some patients completely alleviate symptoms, but results are not typical for all – but to many a reduction in itself is a god send.

Botox for Headaches is now a well practiced procedure, approved by the FDA controllers and now available at Dermaskin clinics in Chester and Manchester. The outpatient procedure costs £250-450. For more information see: http://www.dermaskin.co.uk/treatments/botox-for-headaches/
