By: Cherissa Jackson Captain Cherissa Jackson Provides a Roadmap to Powering Through Your Pains to Achieve Greatness Gaithersburg, MD (October 4, 2016) — Air Force Veteran and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) Survivor, Captain Cherissa Jackson, is excited to announce the launch of her first book titled At Peace: Not in Pieces where she shares seven principles for overcoming obstacles that keep you from greatness. At Peace details Captain Jackson's experiences through each of the principles – Acknowledge, Transition, Perseverance, Engage, Accept, Courage, and Empowerment. It is a story of her journey to finding tranquility and serenity in her daily walk with disappointments, diagnosis with PTSD, failures and successes. At Peace is designed to assist the reader to "acknowledge" Captain Jackson is a retired Air Force Nurse with 14 years of nursing experience. She has served 23 years and survived 4 deployments – 3 to combat hospitals. Four tours of duty in some of the worst war zones required Captain Jackson to compartmentalize her emotions. Re-bandaging charred bodies as she inhaled the smell of burned skin and watching injured soldiers with amputated limbs emerge from helicopters were a part of her daily work. After the bombing in Afghanistan of her building in 2011, which caused her to live in fear for six months, Captain Jackson ultimately retired.When she returned, she was haunted by the memories from her deployments and suffered from increased anxiety. Soon after, she Jackson was diagnosed with PTSD. With a few months on prescribed medication, continued exercise, and her will to conquer PTS, Captain Jackson stands as a PTS Survivor. "I hope the reader will get a better understanding of coping with their pains and struggles that come when you get side tracked from your greatness," said Captain Cherissa Jackson. "This book is a motivational and inspirational piece that will encourage you to deal with the core of your being.
