By: Bette A. Stevens, Maine author/illustrator "Behind most great authors is a great local library, which is why BookLife.com is excited to be part of Indie Author Day. BookLife offers terrific resources for indie authors, including free Publishers Weekly reviews, but there is no substitute for the type of live, in-the-flesh community and support a great library provides," said Carl Pritzkat, VP Business Development at Publisher's Weekly. Indie Author Day is an annual event that will be happening in almost 300 libraries across the U.S. and Canada. This is an opportunity for the indie community to come together in the library to help local authors get discovered and for readers to find great new books from local writers. Beyond the inaugural event that will be happening on October 8th, 2016, the Indie Author Day community will offer programming on the indieauthorday.com website to help libraries and authors stay connected throughout the year. "Library Journal is proud to be involved in helping libraries engage their local writing communities and help them find the best indie books," said David Greenough, General Manager & Group Publisher of Library Journal. "Over the past three years, we've seen this movement grow and evolve, and Indie Author Day will be the first instance of bringing this whole community together on one day to raise awareness of self-published books and demonstrate its place as a vibrant part of the publishing ecosystem." In addition to the activities that will be happening locally, Waterville Public Library will be broadcasting the live streaming panel presentation (http://indieauthorday.com/ "Recent data suggest a massive change is occurring in the book industry. Libraries have the opportunity to reposition themselves in the reading ecosystem, and the engagement we have seen in Indie Author Day shows they are up for the challenge. It is inspiring to see authors and libraries connecting in this way, with the support of so many others in the industry," said Mitchell Davis, CBO of BiblioLabs.
