ATLANTA - Oct. 3, 2016 - PRLog -- The Rev. Dr Gerald L. Durley, Pastor Emeritus, Providence Missionary Baptist Church is calling on all clergy and their congregations in the Atlanta metro area to help the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) reach its goal of  $700,000 in support of scholarships for HBCU students.

As honorary chairman of the Atlanta Faith Initiative, Rev. Durley is looking to clergy who will be in attendance at the UNCF Call to Commitment Faith Leaders breakfast at Paschals on Thursday, October 27 from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., to galvanize church members to make significant contributions to the education campaign.

"To ensure that the UNCF meets its mandate, we are asking for a solid commitment from houses of faith here in the metropolitan Atlanta community. This is our home, these are our children," Rev. Durley said. "We the clergy of Atlanta are being asked to do our share. My brothers and my sisters let's not merely complain about poverty, violence, poor education and not actively getting involved, let's do something to alleviate these challenges which are destroying our young people."

UNCF's five member institutions in Georgia are Clark Atlanta University, Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse, Paine and Spelman colleges.

Clergy are asked to:

• Ask their congregation to remember and reflect on those who helped them through their educational journey
• Ask their personal clergy colleagues to support this financial initiative by donating today.
• Conduct a "UNCF Special Offering Day" for alumni of HBCUs to show their financial support.

UNCF (United Negro College Fund) is the nation's largest and most effective minority education organization. To serve youth, the community and the nation, UNCF supports students' education and development through scholarships and other programs, strengthens its 37 member colleges and universities, and advocates for the importance of minority education and college readiness. Its logo features the UNCF torch of leadership in education and its widely recognized motto, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste, but a wonderful thing to invest in."® Today, UNCF supports more than 60,000 students.

For breakfast attendance, please RSVP to Rhonda Ashison at 404-302-8623 or rhonda.ashison@uncf.org by October 13.
