Patrice Williams will participate in the department's Inaugural Every Place Counts Leadership Academy and help put together strategies to increase community involvement on transportation projects throughout the U.S.
By: BrandGOV, Inc. "I'm very excited about having been selected," says Williams who owns BrandGOV, a policy advocacy firm. "I hope to learn more about policies on the local, state and federal levels that address transportation issues for seniors, students, the disabled and affordable housing communities. I also want to learn more about business opportunities in the transportation field for small businesses like mine." In addition to taking a close look at how transportation decision-making works, academy participants will help design a digital "Transportation Toolkit." The kit will be a collection of materials and strategies that can be used to promote and increase community involvement on transportation projects in any given city. Academy members are being encouraged to use the kit and its associated facilitator's manual to hold Every Place Counts Leadership Academy meetings in their respective communities. Williams says her firm will plan a Northern California Leadership Academy conference next year. "Getting more people involved in the process is one of the best ways to ensure that every community gets the transportation infrastructure it needs," she says. Williams has a considerable community and civic involvement background. She has served on the boards of several organizations and is currently on Congressman John Garamendi's transportation and business advisory committees. She is also on the policy board for the American Public Transportation Association. She is the recipient of a Spirit of Solano Award and Small Business of the Year Award and is a former Honorary Commander for Travis Air Force Base. She holds a Juris Doctorate from San Francisco Law School and is a member of the San Francisco Bar Association. While in Washington, Williams also plans to attend the annual leadership meeting of Women Impacting Public Policy. That meeting will include a congressional briefing on Capitol Hill and a session with representatives from both presidential political campaigns.
