New Breast Cancer Knowledge Centre launches on epgonline.org the website for healthcare professional

TUNBRIDGE WELLS, U.K. - Sept. 29, 2016 - PRLog -- A new clinical resource has launched on epgonline.org this week. The Breast Cancer Knowledge Centre is intended for oncologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment and care of patients with this condition.
Breast cancer is the second most common cancer worldwide. It has the highest 5-year global prevalence of any cancer type, which is estimated to have increased by 21% since 2008 to 6.3 million women in 20121. It is the fifth highest cause of cancer-related death worldwide2 and the leading cause of cancer-related death in women, accounting for 15% of the total3. The global economic cost of breast cancer was estimated at $88 billion in 2008, with only lung cancer and colorectal cancer having a greater economic burden4.

Healthcare professionals can register free of charge on epgonline.org to access this resource: https://www.epgonline.org/breast-cancer-knowledge-centre/en/index.cfm. Information within the Breast Cancer Knowledge Centre is split into key sections and subsections for easy accessibility. The 'Disease Awareness' section compiles fully referenced facts and statistics on breast cancer, including epidemiology, pathophysiology, signs & symptoms, diagnosis & staging and prognosis. A summary of the four intrinsic subtypes, key signalling pathways and the evidence to support each classification is available in the 'Molecular Subtypes' section. The 'Treatment' section comprises current treatment guidelines and explores the different therapies available for each subtype of breast cancer. The 'HR+ Aggressive' section contains detailed information on hormone receptor positive aggressive breast cancer, including metastatic subtypes, current best practice guidelines, treatment therapy options and an overview of the recent ASCO expert panel evaluation of randomised phase II and III clinical trials. Lastly, a resources section pulls together useful external links to workshops and patient information tools, an upcoming oncology events calendar and links to official European medical association and society websites.

Dr Toby Galbraith, Director of Content Strategy for epgonline.org, said: "Breast cancer is a disease touching the lives of many people, and there is a very active field of clinical research trying to tackle it. We hope that healthcare professionals will find our new resource useful in bringing together the latest research and clinical thinking on breast cancer, illustrated and summarised in an accessible manner." The Breast Cancer Knowledge Centre has been developed by EPG Health Media for epgonline.org, in collaboration with F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd, who reviewed the content for clinical accuracy.
