The Tech Academy Invites Women to Global Day of Coderetreat

The Tech Academy and PDXWIT partner up to host a coderetreat in Portland, Oregon in honor of Global Day of Coderetreat.

PORTLAND, Ore. - Sept. 27, 2016 - PRLog -- The Tech Academy partners with PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) to invite women on October 22 for Global Day of Coderetreat.

The free event is "a day to celebrate passion and software craftsmanship," according to globalday.coderetreat.org.

PDXWIT is a Portland community-based non-profit organization with the purpose of strengthening women in the tech community. In partnership with PDXWIT, The Tech Academy will help recruit women to join the event in effort to reduce gender imbalance in the industry.

Coderetreat is an international day-long event that gives coders the opportunity to practice software development and design. Held at The Tech Academy's classroom, the event starts at 8 AM and ends around 5 PM. Breakfast and lunch are included.

The coderetreat day consists of 5-6 sessions, each session's learnings building upon previous sessions. The morning focuses on becoming comfortable with the problem domain, breaking old habits and focusing on self-discovery. The afternoon challenges people to stretch their skills and understanding of abstractions, modular design and test-driven development.

Coderetreat has an established, time-tested format that is optimized for focused practice. Countries around the world will be working on implementing Conway's Game of Life in 45-minute sessions. In each session, developers will pair-up and program in whichever language they prefer, using whichever technologies they would like.

According to Coderetreat.org, "The coderetreat format has proven itself to be a highly effective means of skill improvement."

According to PDX WIT, "The purpose is to learn coding problem solving strategies, share skills and experience pairing in a supportive environment."
