MILAN - Sept. 27, 2016 - PRLog -- When, by chance, you come into contact with a team of enthusiasts that are about to embark on a voyage around the world, it may happen that you become so excited about the project, that you get yourself so involved that you get carried away by the spirit of adventure.

This is what happened between the Shanti crew and Milano Teleport: a simple meeting blossomed into a deep friendship, sharing the same dream which has led to the decision to sponsor such a fantastic adventure.

In April 2016, the first exchanges of information took place between the Shanti team and Milano Teleport immediately highlighting the technical complexities: there was the need to install a satellite communication system on board a 42-foot Hallberg Rassy sailing boat, within an extremely short timeframe, which had to be both simple yet reliable, and these seemed to be requirements that were very difficult to satisfy.

In fact, the voyage entailed the departure, which took place last May from Puerto Sherry, near Cadiz, and then the crew headed towards Madeira, the Canary Islands and Cape Verde.

In October and November the team will attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean making the most of the trade winds, until they reach the Caribbean islands, stopping at ports in the Caribbean Sea.

In 2017, the team will head towards the Pacific Ocean, crossing the recently expanded Panama Canal renovated by Italian engineers employed by Salini-Impregilo, stopping at locations situated along the tropical and equatorial belt, until they reach South Africa, sailing around the Cape of Good Hope and towards Brazil, always taking advantage of the trade winds.

Finally, always with the wind in their favour, they will turn the bow of the vessel to an easterly direction to return into the Mediterranean passing through Gibraltar after sailing for 4 years.

After having excluded a KU band satellite system right from the start, due to the size of the boat, Milano Teleport decided to provide Shanti with an Iridium GO system with an external antenna fitted with a SIM card for voice/data traffic and remote assistance during the voyage.

The installation and activation of the service was carried out according to plan, yet always with a few unforeseen events, during the same month at Puerto Sherry and so the Shanti team were able to put out to sea with a system suitable for both voice and data communications.

It has been a matter of great satisfaction for Milano Teleport to know that they are among the sponsors of this voyage, dealing with a very sensitive, important safety issue, such as telecommunications; this sense of satisfaction is enhanced each time we receive updates and photos from the SHANTI crew while they are sailing among dolphins or in close proximity to splendid coastal areas.

While awaiting to receive further thrilling news, we would like to wish our friends a safe journey.
