By: Construction Marketing Inc. "We haven't experienced any security problems yet," said John Yannuzzi, President of Yannuzzi Group, Inc. "But just because we haven't had a security breach doesn't mean that we should sit back and do nothing. Today we are making changes that will improve our security and the security of the people who use our site. We've taken the necessary steps to make sure that our users continue to be safe while browsing our website." The new site uses Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) to send data that is secured by 2048-bit Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol. This protects the safety of their users and the site itself. HTTPS creates an encrypted communication channel, so even if a user browses the web using public Wi-Fi at a coffeehouse, their privacy is protected. Without HTTPS, an attacker can listen in to a public Wi-Fi stream to view which websites each individual visits. Although public sites like Yannuzzi's do not carry confidential information, an aggregated browsing history of an individual as they visit different sites on the web may indicate what industry they are in, who they do business with, and much more. Now, when a user visits Yannuzzi's new HTTPS site, that visit is hidden from prying eyes. All a potential attacker will be able to view is a stream of encrypted bits. An added benefit of HTTPS is that hackers cannot tamper with the data or impersonate the Yannuzzi site in an effort to redirect the user to a different, copycat website that attempts to gain their personal information. The lock icon that appears in the web address bar indicates that the user has reached the official site, and that the security certificate is valid. "As good citizens of the web, we feel it is our duty to do our part to make the Internet a safer place for everyone," Yannuzzi said. "As one of the largest demolition companies on the East Coast, we frequently work on projects that are worth tens of millions of dollars. We realize that the financial and security implications of certain demolition projects can impact markets and property values. The security of our potential customers is very important to us, and it's really important that we keep this information completely confidential," Yannuzzi's new HTTPS site went live on September 29, 2016.
