Filmed over the course of four years ,"One Note At a Time" includes interviews with Grammy awards winner Dr. John; Irma Thomas, the 'Soul Queen of New Orleans; jazz trumpeter Kermit Ruffins; Ben Jaffe of Preservation Hall; and British born Trad Jazz drummer, Barry Martyn. Some of the final interviews and performances, by Crescent City icons, include bassist Walter Payton, Jr.; composer, arranger and bandleader Wardell Quezergue, considered the 'Creole Beethoven'; Herman "Roscoe" Ernest III, Dr. John's drummer; as well as jazz and blues musician and vocalist 'Uncle' Lionel Batiste. Musical highlights include performances by Dr. John, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Damien Neville, Charmaine Neville, Ellis Marsalis and the New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra, among others. Classic songs include "Purple Rose of Cairo," "Summertime," Edwards continues, "As a child growing up I often visited my father who lives in New Orleans. My mother is British and I was raised in England. As a filmmaker I am naturally curious, so I wanted to make a documentary about what was happening to the culture and music post the hurricane and flooding. I also wanted to see how it was going to compare to my memories. We witnessed a transformation; "One Note at a Time" marks the directorial debut for editor, producer and writer Renee Edwards. Some of her better known British television credits include the long running investigative news and current affairs series' "Panorama," "Unreported World" and "Dispatches." End
