HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. - Sept. 23, 2016 - PRLog -- Interest in mindfulness meditation has increased exponentially since Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn developed the 8 week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course in 1979 that has been featured in countless media segments and hundreds of scientific research articles. Mindfulness meditation as taught in the MBSR course is evidence-based and has been shown to reduce depression and anxiety, improve coping with chronic illness and pain, and increase a sense of balance and well-being. Moreover, research has found that health care providers who practice mindfulness meditation have decreased stress and burnout and improved communication with patients. Given its effectiveness, mindfulness meditation has become increasingly popular across psychotherapeutic orientations. This workshop will include an educational component as well as an experiential component. Participants will learn about the trend of using mindfulness in therapy, get an overview of the MBSR course, and learn about current research. They will also get a first-hand experience in 2-3 mindfulness meditation practices.
