By: Weil Public Relations The sanctuary currently provides boarding and medical care for about 95 animals at a time—rescued from high-kill shelters—who are awaiting transport via the group's monthly caravans to partner organizations and shelters around the country where loving homes are more readily available. The expansion includes four new houses, each holding 16 indoor/outdoor air-conditioned kennels, one serving as a maternity ward for pregnant mothers and their puppies and one cat "Jungle Room" sanctuary. The plan also features improved medical facilities, a play area with a pool, and a volunteer village with 10 cabins, so volunteers will have access to free accommodations while assisting the organization with its humane mission. Some of Animal Aid USA's volunteers are veterans with PTSD, and families with children who have been bullied or abused. "As a 100% volunteer group," states Borghese, "we have been able to save so many animals because we have no payroll, no rent—even our veterinarians are volunteers. That's the great news. The bad news is that our shelter conditions aren't ideal—for example, we don't have heat in the winter or air conditioning in the summer. We need these funds not only to save more animals, but also to make the necessary renovations and improvements that will raise the standard of care while they are here." Through monthly transports from high kill shelters to qualified rescues across the U.S., to its spay/neuter clinic providing free sterilization to low income communities, Animal Aid USA strives to improve the lives of homeless animals nationwide. www.animalaidusa.org End
