Appraising 20th & 21st Century Studio Craft Webinar

RESTON, Va. - Sept. 22, 2016 - PRLog -- The American Society of Appraisers announces its Appraising 20th & 21st Century Studio Craft webinar (http://www.appraisers.org/Education/View-Class?ClassID=3641) to be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 1:00pm-3:00pm eastern time.

The history of modern and contemporary craft since World War II was a period of inventiveness for the movement, buoyed by American confidence, bed by expansive changes in society, visual culture, and a growing appreciative audience. Potters, weavers, jewelers, and wood-turners established communities, developed institutional organizations, assembled supporters, and received recognition in public and private collections. The GI bill for returning vets spurred both interest and burgeoning academic and vocational training programs. While there was a boom in collecting craft from the 1960s to the early 2000s, currently, with an ageing collector base that is downsizing and deaccessioning has drastically changed the marketplace and values. Issues of identification, resources for appraisers to better understand the market (retail, secondary, auction), and craft materials and techniques will be discussed to prepare the appraiser in establishing values for insurance, charitable contributions, and estate planning.
