Alpizar Law: Upholding a Tradition of Public Service

By: Alpizar Law

PALM BAY, Fla. - Sept. 21, 2016 - PRLog -- For almost 40 years, John Alpizar has been helping the people of Brevard County and Central Florida help to get back on their feet following a tragedy.  John began his legal career when he joined a firm in Cocoa, Florida that was committed to quality and ethical legal representation.  The firm had outstanding lawyers that were not only exceptional in the court room, but were also committed to giving back to the community and the profession.  Two members of that firm served as presidents of the Brevard County Bar Association, one served on the Board of Governors of the Florida Bar and two became Circuit Judges in Brevard County.

John learned early about the importance of service to the community and to the legal profession.  He served on the Brevard County Bar Association as a Board Director, as well as the capacity of each executive position and eventually became President.  John has served on the 18th Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee, the 18th Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission and was appointed by Governor Charlie Crist to serve on the 5th District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission.

He has served as President of the Central Florida Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocacy (ABOTA), and currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Florida Bar representing the 18th Judicial Circuit covering Brevard and Seminole Counties.  John is also the founder of the O. John Alpizar Endowment which provides funding for the Brevard County Bar Foundation.  This funding of the foundation helps provide assistance to local charities and organizations.  John's service to the community is wide spread.  Each year, Alpizar Law sponsors a Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway to help hundreds of local families enjoy their Thanksgiving Holiday.

In keeping with the tradition of giving, the attorneys and staff of Alpizar Law have followed in the founding traditions of the firm by being involved in both ongoing community outreach, as well as commitment to the profession.

David M. Alpizar

David Alpizar was born in Melbourne, FL and returned to Brevard County in 2007 with his family.  Since that time, he has served in various elected capacities with the Brevard County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division.  He began as a Board Director followed by service on each executive director position and ultimately served as President.

David has also been an invited member of the Vassar B. Carlton Inn of Court for eight years.  The Inn of Court is an international professional organization made up of attorneys and judges dedicated to promoting legal excellence, civility, professionalism and ethics in the legal arena.  David was selected to serve as Secretary/Treasurer and he recently completed his term as President of this organization.  This year, David was also selected by his professional colleagues to serve on the Board of Directors of the Brevard County Bar Association.

Within the local community, David also serves on the Board of Directors for YoungLife Space Coast, an organization dedicated to introducing adolescents to the truth about God and His love for them.  He is on the Board of Directors for Operation Hope in Fellsmere, Florida, which is dedicated to helping people in financial need in a variety of ways, including food distribution, youth sporting activities, thrift shop services, education and back to school projects, Thanksgiving and Christmas food and toy donations and cost effective educational services.

Andrew B. Pickett

Andrew Pickett, who grew up in Brevard County and graduated from Satellite High School, returned to his hometown to begin his legal career as a prosecutor at the 18th Circuit State Attorney's Office in Viera.  He spent four years as an Assistant State Attorney, learning early the value of both public and community service.  In 2011, he was recognized by former State Attorney Norm Wolfinger as the recipient of the Pride in Excellence Attorney of the Year Award for the Brevard County State Attorney's Office.

Early in his career, Andrew immediately immersed himself in the legal community by joining Brevard County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. He served in various capacities within the executive board for several years, including President.  Andrew was also elected to the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Board of Governors, where he is currently serving his third term as an elected governor.  Andrew has served as a Board Director on the Brevard County Bar Association, where he currently serves as Treasurer. Andrew has also been an invited member of the Vassar B. Carlton American Inn of Court for the past six years

Outside the legal arena Andrew has also given back much of his time.  He graduated from Leadership Brevard in 2012 and served for four years as a board member of the Friends of the Children's Advocacy Center of Brevard.  He is a past board member of the Space Coast Tiger Bay Club and has served for several years as a member of the Grant Review Committee for the Community Foundation for Brevard.  Andrew is currently an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Florida State College and regularly teaches classes at the Law Enforcement Academy.

Scott D. Alpizar

Scott Alpizar returned to Brevard County to begin his legal career earlier this year.  Being new to the firm and to the profession, Scott quickly engrossed himself in the local legal community by not only joining the Brevard County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, but being elected as a Board Director in his first year as a lawyer.  He was also invited to join the Vassar B. Carlton American Inn of Court, an organization composed of legal peers throughout the Brevard County area.  Scott plays an active role in Alpizar Law's community outreach programs, including the firm's annual Turkey Giveaway and Operation Hope's Back to School Project.
