LOS ANGELES - Sept. 21, 2016 - PRLog -- When a teenage brother and sister playing on a beach along the Virginia coast discover a fully intact wooden figurehead from the sailing ships of old buried in the sand, some twelve feet long and weighing almost three tons, the Figurehead Trilogy began with book one, Rise of a Legend.

Now fans of the fictional past of plausible supernatural can relish with the unique characters and details of past sailing ships, damsels in distress, pirates and the gallant protagonist, brought together in a literary style as only author Rock Lambert's can do, in this, his second book in the trilogy titled, The Bite of the Jackal.

The skillful story telling of Lambert began when he was a youth.  "English was my favorite subject in school, and when I started the sixth grade our teacher read J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" to us over a period of a few weeks," said the author during a recent interview. "From that point on, when I learned that such imaginative things could be created and written about, I guess I could honestly say that the inspiration to be a writer began right there."

Inspiration comes in strange ways, as Lambert said, "I've always been drawn to the ocean and a fascination with the old sailing ships. One night while I was at work, I got my inspiration to write the story from out of all places, a fortune cookie. I know it sounds silly, but it's true!"

Salt water runs in Rock Lambert's veins.  "Ever since I was a small child, I've been drawn to the ocean. There's something about the sights, sounds and smells of the ocean that keeps me going back time and again," he said.  "I enjoyed reading the stories and legends that told of the age of sail, and the seafaring men that dared to go out on the water. Sailing was very different then, with no motors or GPS. Navigation was by the sun, stars and maps, and you were always at the mercy of the weather. The men of those days risked their lives every day."

This love of the ocean, along with the men who braved the seas in past years, has contributed to the plausible authenticity Lambert brings to his trilogy.

"Built with moments that are touching, suspenseful and at times terrifying, author Rock Lambert's Figurehead: Book 2 - Bite of the Jackal, regales readers with a wonderfully imaginative narrative where the past, present and the supernatural converge to make an intrinsically entertaining read.  Followers of the series as well as new readers, will not be disappointed, as this second book in the Figurehead trilogy, faithfully continues this maritime based tale of the ventures of Captain Silas Pike, his vengeful pursuit of the deadly Jackal and a beautiful figurehead."Pacific Book Review.
