ATLANTA - Sept. 21, 2016 - PRLog -- The Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation will partner with Home Depot on the 6th Annual Gardens are for Kids project at Browns Mill Elementary School on Thursday, September 29 in Dekalb County, GA. The project is designed to educate and empower children to make healthier food choices, avoid unhealthy foods and learn the principles of agriculture as well as the importance of incorporating fresh vegetables in their daily diet.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, childhood obesity is a serious problem in the United States. Despite recent declines in the prevalence among preschool-aged children, obesity among children is still too high. For children and adolescents aged 2-19 years, the prevalence of obesity has remained fairly stable at about 17% and affects about 12.7 million children and adolescents for the past decade.

"Our objective is to enrich the lives of children with interactive learning activities that demonstrate the value of fresh fruit and vegetables on a daily basis. We want to give children a proper foundation of how to grow and nurture plants and assist them in forming healthy habits of consuming vegetables everyday." said Lori A. Manns, President of Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation, Inc.

The Home Depot has partnered with the Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation as a sponsor of the program to offer this educational program free to local Atlanta area schools.
