Fort Washington Medical Center Holds First Children's Expo During Annual District 8 Health Fair

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. - Sept. 20, 2016 - PRLog -- Fort Washington Medical Center (FWMC) will be expanding their involvement in District 8's Health Fair by holding its first Children's Health Expo, Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Complex located 7007 Bock Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744. Partnering again with event host, FWMC Honoree and Prince George's County District 8 Councilman Obie Patterson, this year the new expo aims to increase health awareness and motivate participants through health screenings, fitness activities, demonstrations, and tips for self-care. The event, themed "Fitness is a Family Affair" will attract over 800 attendees.

"The Children's Expo is the perfect opportunity to educate the youth on healthy living and reach out to our community with valuable health information for children and their families," said Yvonne Magee, Ph.D., Nexus Health Board Chair. "Knowledge is a tool that can take us a long way in life, and we believe educating children about how to take care of their bodies is a great way to prepare them for their future."

With roughly 300 children expected at the event, the new innovative program will consist of educational banners displayed at a series of stations where children can learn about health topics through games, music, and other activities. Additionally, children will have plenty of opportunities for fun, with activities such as face painting, balloon animals, interactive games, fire truck and much more.

FWMC remains dedicated to advancing the health and vitality of their community, and on Saturday, October 29, 2016, they will honor leaders from Prince George's County and the State of Maryland for their trailblazing work in this mission at their gala, "All Hands on Deck: Collaborating for a Healthier Community." The black-tie event, held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center located at National Harbor, will celebrate the outstanding achievements, commitment and dedication of health professionals, community and civic leaders, politicians and various organizations throughout the state.
