MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Sept. 20, 2016 - PRLog -- Once again, Hooters Girls are asking the nation to open their hearts and its wallets in the fight against breast cancer during their month-long October fundraising campaign in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. With close to 20,000 Hooters Girls around the globe in more than 425 restaurants in 42 states and 26 countries Hooters Girls are uniquely qualified to make voices heard in the efforts to find a cure for cancer.

Hooters will officially kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with three Hooters Calendar signings that are open to the public so that it can join in this important fight. The events will take place at the Hooters in Manhattan located at 155 West 33rd Street just east of Seventh Avenue across from Madison Square Garden on Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. and on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 12:30-1:30 p.m. and 5:30-7:00 p.m.  These public signings will bring the calendar to life and give Hooter's friends, fans and loyal customers a chance to interact with some of the beautiful young women featured in the new 2017 calendar (http://www.hooterscalendar.com/).  Hooters Girls will be on site to pose for photos, autograph their photo in the calendar and answer questions about the awareness program.

After impressive fundraising campaigns over the past few years, Hooters has raised over 4 million dollars to support the fight against breast cancer, with a goal of raising $1 million this year! Consistent with previous years, the money raised will be earmarked for breast cancer awareness and research initiatives.

Proceeds will be derived from $1 from the sale of each 2017 Hooters Swimsuit Calendar and a donation from custom mixed drinks (alcoholic or virgin) the Orange Shorts Margarita and the Pink Passion.  Pink Bracelets with an option to write in the name of a loved one that you support are sold for $3 or more and 100% of each sale goes to the cause.  Hooters patrons are generous and every year they open their hearts by "Pinking-up their tab." Add a cash or credit card donation to your check and that all goes towards our goal.

Hooters motivation for this life-saving campaign first began with one of our own, Kelly Jo Dowd, one of the original Hooters Girls who graced the cover of the 1995 Hooters Calendar and rose to a management position was diagnosed with breast cancer. Always an inspiration to her fellow Hooters Girls, Kelly Jo valiantly battled breast cancer for five years before succumbing on May 24, 2007. Throughout her struggle she was courageous and selfless, becoming an advocate for early detection, education and fundraising. Her influence on Hooters culture of service remains as strong as ever. Hooters Girls have raised more than $2 million to support breast cancer research, much of it through the grant in Kelly Jo's name to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, one of the nation's leading cancer research funding organizations. These grants honor Kelly Jo and further her mission to educate all women, especially her extended family consisting of some 300,000 current and former Hooters Girls, about the importance of early detection and prevention.

The V Foundation for Cancer Research has funded more than $115 million in cancer research grants nationwide with 100 percent of direct cash donations funding cancer research. Due to generous donors, the Foundation has an endowment that covers administrative expenses. For more information about The V Foundation for Cancer Research, please visit www.jimmyv.org.

Early detection reminders and recommendations were adapted from guidelines by the American Cancer Society.

"Our calendar continues to grow in popularity and every year we're challenged with taking it up a notch," said Chuck Melcher, owner and publisher of the Hooters Calendar. "This year marks the 31st annual edition and it's the best yet! Over the years, thanks to the enormous generosity of our clientele, the calendar has been the leader  in raising donations to charities that support our Troops, Breast Cancer Awareness and other worthy concerns."

Being selected as a Hooters Calendar Girl is extraordinary and presents many unmatched opportunities for the Hooters Calendar Girls as they travel to events and conduct interviews with the media," added Melcher.

Since 1986, the Hooters Calendar remains one of the most anticipated publications for Hooters fans, with more than 200 original photos of the world famous beautiful Hooters Girls, shot across 50 cities. The calendar employs a team of industry professional photographers who travel the U.S. shooting over 30,000 photos for the calendar.
