29th Annual Downriver Prayer Breakfast

TRENTON, Mich. - Sept. 20, 2016 - PRLog -- This year the Downriver Prayer Breakfast has retained Ashley Smith to address the group with  her story. Ashley Smith's life changed dramatically on March 11, 2005, when Brian Nichols forced his way into her apartment following his deadly rampage at Atlanta's Fulton County Courthouse. After offering Nichols her remaining stash of methamphetamines, she brought out her copy of Rick Warren's The Purpose Driven Life. During her seven hours as Nichols' hostage, her life-story and Warren's direction made Nichols consider how God could use him if he surrendered. He did so the following morning.The single mother who persuaded Brian Nichols, Atlanta's courtroom killer, to surrender to police. Nichols himself called Ashley "an angel sent from God", but ironically, it was Ashley's less-than-angelic past that convinced him to face justice.

New this year, the group will honor First Responders at the community event. Sponsorships are available for $250 to sponsor a table of first responders. Other sponsors will be recognized with a donation of $700, and it will include 10 tickets. Student sponsorships are also available for $400 which will afford ten high school students to attend and can be ordered at the above address. Sponsors will be listed in the program with a special designation and mentioned on the cable program which will air throughout December.

The event will be held Friday Dec. 2 at the Crystal Garden Banquet Center, 16703 Fort St., Southgate, beginning with breakfast at 7 a.m. and followed by an inspirational program at 7:30 a.m., and ending at 9:30 a.m. The non-denominational program of spiritual renewal will be led by local clergy.
