Tiny Monster Art Traveling to Homes Across the US

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Sept. 27, 2016 - PRLog -- People might imagine some curious goings on in their mailboxes this fall. It could be a tiny monster's arrived, traveling the country on Netflix mailers. From thousands of submissions, Cris Hamilton's was one of four doodles selected by Netflix to decorate their signature red DVD mailers. Her artwork features a little fellow who, typical of tiny monsters, has succumbed to impatience (and love of popcorn) and has already started watching the movie in the mailbox.

Although the tiny monster is expected to reach millions of Netflix subscribers, it isn't the first to venture out of Cris Hamilton's small studio on the Central Coast of California. Ordinarily, she works in watercolor and, since March of this year, has painted remarkably expressive miniature monsters that average the size of a dime - and occasionally of a Pez candy.  The charming tiny art, often accompanied by whimsical reflections, is already collected worldwide.

While the Netflix doodle is fairly unique in being set in a scene, all of her tiny monster watercolors live in the real world.  The illustrations often capture the miniature in mid-attempt to understand the human experience. Several have starred in very short videos she animated with the sole purpose of letting them show off their peculiar charms, such as curiosity or merry acceptance of their tiny limitations.

A portion of the tiny monsters' appeal is certainly because of their size; Cris Hamilton speculates that another contributing factor is 'the delight we feel when our own imagination, our empathy, gets stirred. That's the magical sensation.'

Cris Hamilton is an illustrator, writer and animator of explainer videos living in Santa Barbara.  Cris also paints small watercolors of  imaginarily real women who have pointed and witty thoughts about the real world. Her shadowboxes are made with original watercolors, hand cut and assembled.

She's currently finishing her second book featuring the tiny monsters.  Her first picture book, Let's, was self published last year.

She is fun and funny, no matter what they say.
