The BCAE Plays Host to Street Pianos Boston Designed by Local Artist Mr. BRreddy

BOSTON - Sept. 19, 2016 - PRLog -- the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE), the city's award-winning education center, will play host to one of the Celebrity Series of Boston's Street Pianos Boston designed by local artist, Mr. BRreddy.

Since July, sixty local artists have been hard at work, painting the pianos that will line the streets as part of the popular art installation Play Me, I'm Yours, conceived by international public artist Luke Jerram. The series will place a piano in each of Boston's 23 neighborhoods and select Cambridge locations, including at Statler Park, located across from the Park Plaza hotel and just steps from the BCAE. Each piano will feature a simple invitation: "Play Me, I'm Yours."

According to Celebrity Series of Boston, each artist, location and community partner such as the BCAE was selected to engage and celebrate all of Boston's different neighborhoods. The public locations, such as parks, plazas and T stops, are meant to encourage Bostonians from every neighborhood to engage with and enjoy the pianos and the music. As a community partner the BCAE acts as a "piano buddy," which includes covering the piano in inclement weather, reporting any damages and locking the keyboard at night during the two weeks of the installation.

The BCAE is proud to be a partner in this festival that celebrates city life and culture in Boston. As an organization dedicated for more than 80 years to providing hands-on learning experiences, this public project represents new opportunities for the BCAE to promote participation by all in fun activities that support our commitment to fostering and sustaining a community of passionate and engaged learners. Each year, the BCAE offers 1,200 classes, workshops, and events that attract 10,000 students to its dynamic facility in Bay Village. Its exciting roster of core offerings includes classes in voice, piano, guitar, dancing, drawing, painting, craft-making, music, food and wine, writing, languages and more.

Play Me, I'm Yours was created by UK artist Luke Jerram and has been touring internationally since 2008.  Celebrity Series of Boston first produced the installation in Boston in 2013 when more than 500,000 people across the city engaged with Street Pianos Boston, sharing music and song in a citywide festival.  More than 1,500 pianos have now been installed in 50 cities across the globe, from New York to London.  The project has reached more than 10 million people worldwide, with each new city that commissions the work becoming part of a growing legacy.

Funding support for Street Pianos Boston 2016 is generously provided by Amy and Joshua Boger, The Boston Foundation, the Stephanie L. Brown Foundation, the Klarman Family Foundation, Donna and Mike Egan, Eleanor and Frank Pao, Allston Piano Moving Company, The Innovation and Design Bldg., the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District, and Fund for the Arts, a public art program of the New England Foundation for the Arts.
