To register follow this link http://www.active.com/ This year's event will celebrate the survivorship anniversaires of several local breast cancer survivors. It will also include a testimony by two-time breast cancer survivor, Karla Antoinette Baptiste, author of Dig in Your Heels: The Glamorous (and Not So Glamorous) Life of a Young Breast Cancer Survivor. "It is has been so important for me with my battle with breast cancer to see other people who are survivors. It is incredibly encouraging when you are going through it and see those that are victorious,' states Karla Baptiste. "The other thing about celebrating survivorship is, it helps to remove the fear from people that don't have breast cancer. Many women are scared if they get a lump or have anything suspicious going on with their breast. Many women still don't want to go and get checked out even though they know early detection is the key," added Baptiste. The festivities will begin with an aerobic workout by Lucinda Butler at 8:00 AM. The race/walk will start at 8:30 am. Other activities include health information, mammograms (appointments can be scheduled at 214-947-0026) The Celebrating Life Foundation is a non- profit organization devoted to educating the African American community and women of color about the risks of breast cancer, and the benefits of early detection and treatment.
