SAN FRANCISCO - Sept. 20, 2016 - PRLog -- Fine Art Painter, Scott Idleman was selected by Sundance Cinemas Gallery of Robert Redford's Sundance Group for an exclusive exhibition at their Sundance Cinema Gallery in San Francisco.

The artist's work was chosen from a group of local artists who submitted their work for consideration to Sundance via an exclusive partnership with StudioVox.

Idleman's exhibition, "Biota: the Beauty of Micro vs. Macro" runs from September 1 through January 10 and includes contemporary abstract paintings inspired by the representation of microcosms, imparted by aerial views, microscopic imagery, patterns in nature, and Aboriginal art.

According to Idleman the comprehensive theme of all of his artwork is connectivity.

"The rhythm and patterns of my mark-making, though abstract and stylized, has a familiarity," says Idleman. "My inspiration may be what one would see out of an airplane window, the landscape reduced to grids, circles, and squiggles. Or maybe it's the experience of being in a garden and examining plants in extreme close up—the textures, shapes, and colors.  I strive to make the point with my body of work that our big, big world and the tiniest cellular microcosmos are one in the same and very connected."

Originally trained as a graphic designer, Idleman returned to the alchemy of paint, ink and texture in the fine arts realm. Mining his childhood obsession with doodling and self-taught batik making, Idleman developed a technique of colorizing thinned gesso then drawing and mark-making with it to build up lines that can be filled with washes of color and gloss. The raised gesso lines create shadows and relief that change dramatically in different light sources.

Idleman was born in Stamford, Connecticut, grew up in Mississippi, and Illinois, eventually moving to New York City before settling in San Francisco where he's resided since 1992.

He attended Cleveland Art Institute for Foundations then Kansas City Art Institute where he received a B.F.A. in Graphic Design with minors in fibers, photography and painting.
