Mental Health America of Georgia Joins Revlon Love is On 2016 Million Dollar Challenge on Crowd Rise

Help Mental Health America of Georgia win $1 Million Grand Prize by Donating on CrowdRise

ATLANTA - Sept. 15, 2016 - PRLog -- Mental Health America (MHA) of Georgia has joined the Revlon LOVE IS ON 2016 Million Dollar Challenge, a fundraising competition that lives on CrowdRise.com -- the largest crowdfunding platform for charities. Launched by Revlon, the Challenge was created to help charities supporting women's health raise as much money as possible for their causes. During the course of the six-week Challenge, leading women's health organizations will compete to raise as much money as possible with $1,425,000 in prize money at stake. MHA of Georgia has joined the challenge on CrowdRise to raise money to support Project Healthy Moms (PHM), which offers a variety of programs to increase awareness, identification, treatment and support of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) in Georgia and to reduce the stigma associated with these illnesses. PMADs are the most common complication of childbirth. In the United States, up to 20% of new mothers suffer from these devastating illnesses which, if not properly treated, can have a long-term, negative impact on the health of mothers, children and families. In Georgia alone, over 30,000 pregnant and postpartum women are likely to experience a PMAD. During pregnancy and the postpartum period, when mothers expect to feel elated, they instead experience feelings of worthlessness or guilt, fatigue, decreased concentration, suicidality, depressed mood, loss of interest and other symptoms. MHA of Georgia's mission is to enhance the mental health of Georgians through education, outreach and advocacy. Through PHM, we are working to fulfill this mission by advocating for maternal mental health and striving to eliminate the deficit of education and resources for PMADs. MHA of Georgia supports the mental health of pregnant and postpartum women in Georgia through the provision of the following services: resource linkage, PMAD screening and identification training, perinatal peer support, and community outreach. "We are grateful to Revlon for their support of women's health," said Sarah Schwartz, MHA of Georgia's

Executive Director. "Women's wellness includes physical health as well as mental health. Indeed, research has proven over and over again the strong connection between poor mental health and poor physical health. We hope that communities throughout Georgia will follow in Revlon's generous footsteps by donating to support the vital issue of women's wellness – especially their mental wellness, which is too often overlooked." The Revlon LOVE IS ON 2016 Million Dollar Challenge launches on CrowdRise on September 14th at 12pm ET and runs through October 26th at 1:59:59pm ET. The team that raises the most during the Challenge wins $1 million, second place wins $100,000, third place wins $75,000, fourth place wins $50,000 and fifth place wins $25,000. Weekly Bonus Challenges enable charities to win up to another $175,000. CrowdRise Challenges are innovative fundraising competitions for charitable organizations. Designed to build capacity, create massive engagement, and leverage the power of the crowd, these Challenges provide new, meaningful funding streams for organizations in every sector.
