The year was 1986. Ronald Reagan was president, a gallon of gas cost 89 cents, and a Ford Mustang cost $7,452. Top Gun was the big hit in the movie theaters and Billy Joel, Robert Palmer, and Lionel Richie topped the pop charts. Families gathered around the television to watch popular shows like Family Ties, Cheers and Dynasty.

Meanwhile in Oakland, Michigan, a 28-year-old man named Mike Carr had just purchased a business called Oakland Office. Coincidentally, Mike purchased the company the same day that Office Depot went into business. Mike had started working for Oakland Office as a driver while attending college. In his first year as the owner his company sold over $600,000. In 1995 Mike changed the name from Oakland Office to Office Express (OEX), and in 2007 moved the business to its current Troy, Michigan location.

While their name and location has changed a few times, their ownership, dedication to customers, and Michigan base have remained the same throughout the years.  "I have the utmost gratitude to our employees and especially to our customers, some of whom have been with us for the entire 30-year period," said owner Mike Carr.

OEX provides over 100,000 office supply products and has over 40 distribution centers across North America. Their staff of experts assists with supplying business supplies, office furniture, interior design, custom printing, graphic design, and promotional products.
