Follow on Google News | Texas Historical Marker Awarded to Long Lost AirparkFounded by Air Corp Colonel Jack Lapham in 1947, the Flying L Hill Country Resort is rich in recently uncovered aviation history.
By: Flying L Hill Country Resort Upon further research, Susan discovered that the Flying L's Villas, Pilot's Lounge, & Map Room were designed by the Great American Architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright's unique architectural use of angles and large fireplaces is apparent in the Pilot's Lounge and Villas. When viewed aerially, the Villas are triangular shaped, all point Northward, and were designed to resemble aircraft. While browsing the web, Susan uncovered photographs from a 1947 LIFE Magazine featuring an aeronautical fashion show put on by the Flying L. The show's guests included: Stanley Marcus (the son of Neiman Marcus), Prince Romanoff, & the professional Tennis Player Jack Kramer. Other interesting facts include Coca Cola Co. & Cessna Aircraft filming commercials at the Flying L. The Texas Historical Marker is another distinguishing factor making the Flying L Hill Country Resort a unique place to visit in the Texas Hill Country.
