Execulink Telecom announces 2016 Scholarship winners

 
WOODSTOCK, Ontario - Sept. 13, 2016 - PRLog -- Execulink Telecom announced the winners of their 2016 Scholarship program today, continuing their focus on giving back to the communities they serve.

Three $500 scholarships were awarded to Jamie Torrance-Perks from Kitchener, Jennifer Gysbers from Ilderton and Johanna de Jong from Guelph.

This year's winners are 3 women who are starting University to study in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematic) programs. Criteria for the selection process included academic achievements in mathematics and sciences as well as volunteer contributions to community based organizations. These scholarships are available to students graduating from high school and advancing into post-secondary education.

Jamie Torrance-Perks will be studying Civil Engineering at University of Waterloo.  She has spent time volunteering at a vacation bible camp and being a math tutor. "The most rewarding aspect of my community involvement is seeing the reaction on the children's faces" Torrance-Perks continued "they looked up to me as a leader."

Jennifer Gysbers will be studying a double degree in Business and Financial Math at the Wilfred Laurier University. She has spent over 5 years volunteering at the Ilderton Arena contributing to the Ilderton Minor Hockey Association as a Score and Time Keeper. "One of the most rewarding aspects of my community work at the arena is the excitement of the kids playing hockey when they hear their name announced after scoring a goal, or hearing the goal horn play after a goal is scored."

Johanna de Jong will be studying Medical Science at Western University. Johanna went to Nicaragua for a week long mission with the Friends of Orphans Organization to aid in the maintenance of local orphanages. "The most rewarding aspect of volunteering for me has been witnessing the happiness that can come as a result has been an incredible experience." De Jong added "The skills and lessons that volunteering has taught me have been invaluable and crucial to my development as a person."

"Starting college and university can be a challenging time for students and parents. Our goal with the scholarship program is to take some of that stress away," says Execulink CEO Ian Stevens, "It gives us great pleasure knowing that we can help with their education."

In addition to offering this annual scholarship program, Execulink has a long history of supporting local charities, non-profit organizations, and minor sports teams in the territories they offer services in.
