Follow on Google News | ACSH Welcomes RealClearScience's Dr. Alex Berezow as Senior Fellow of Biomedical ScienceThe former founding editor of RealClearScience, a division of RealClearPolitics, spearheads biomedical and biotechnology outreach at the American Council on Science and Health.
Prior to joining the Council, Dr. Berezow was the founding editor of RealClearScience, part of the RealClearPolitics family, and led it from inception to well over 1 million pageviews per month. Dr. Berezow is a regular contributor to The Economist, BBC News, The Wall Street Journal, and USA Today, where he serves on the Board of Contributors. "I'm absolutely honored to be here," Dr. Berezow said. "[ACSH President] Hank Campbell and I co-authored a bestselling book in 2012. When he asked me to join him at the Council, it was the easiest decision I ever made." As a prolific science journalist, Dr. Berezow regularly participates in the national dialogue. He has been a guest on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News, as well as on the nationally syndicated radio program the Michael Medved Show. Because he holds a PhD in microbiology, Dr. Berezow focuses primarily on biomedical science. Debunking popular junk science, such as the anti-vaccine and anti-GMO movements, is also one of his passions, and has long been a mainstay of the American Council on Science and Health (http://acsh.org). "I know as well as anyone how terrific his instincts are when it comes to making complex science issues understandable for the public," said Mr. Campbell. "Separating health threats from health scares is what we have done for 38 years, and Dr. Berezow has spent his whole career promoting good, evidence-based science and criticizing hype. He will be a huge asset in our educational outreach efforts." A frequent world traveler, Dr. Berezow has visited 17 European nations on 17 trips to the continent. He believes his global perspective has greatly enhanced his ability to put politically sensitive scientific and cultural issues into their proper context. "Teaching Americans about science and easing overblown fears about the safety of food and chemicals is what made Beth Whelan's work so important, perhaps more so today than ever," Dr. Berezow said. "I feel privileged to carry on her legacy." Dr. Berezow lives with his wife in Seattle. End
