Plus Size Model Brings Body Positivity to Spring, Texas

SPRING, Texas - Sept. 11, 2016 - PRLog -- Like most plus-sized women, Mandy Holverson has a hard time finding clothes. "I either find things that are hip and trendy and don't fit, or they're super frumpy and fit like a potato sack." Even when she started plus size modeling professionally, where you would think the options would be limitless, she was still surprised to find that there was a huge gap in the market for plus size women.  In 2015 she had the pleasure of appearing on Good Morning, America! with super model and body positive advocate Ashley Graham. After sharing her experiences with the world, Mandy received a lot of comments from women telling her how they identified and empathized with her. They told her how hearing about her struggles gave them strength to face their own problems. "I started to think, 'If just talking about my life on TV could help people, what else could I do to help even more women like me?'"

Meanwhile, Mandy's mother Reese Murphy had to temporarily move to Cleveland, Ohio to help care for her injured mother.  "My Mom was struck by a car and I had to leave suddenly, so I didn't really have time to pack." Unfortunately for Reese, winter was coming to Cleveland and as a Houston resident, you can bet she didn't think to pack a heavy coat. In a stroke of luck, she was surprised to find the city well-stocked with quality thrift stores. "There's so many places in Cleveland to find awesome clothes and the prices are so much more affordable than back home."

Upon Reese's return, she and Mandy decided that Houston was in great need of the kind of thrift store she found up north and Mandy knew this was the opportunity she was looking for to help the plus-sized community. "We knew the job was too big for the two of us," Reese says, "So we reached out to my other daughter, Jessie for help. Jessie has a really unique creative vision and three of us together formed an epic triple threat and Yours Truly was born."

The shop officially opened on July 8th in the quiet North Houston shopping district of Old Town Spring. "We're a little off the beaten path" Mandy continues "But being plus size ourselves, we really understand how difficult it is to find clothes that not only fit, but are affordable, hip, and make you feel good wearing them and we know people are willing to seek us out."

Yours Truly also has a passion for animals as well as people. "Early on we teamed up with Texas Litter Control, a non-profit veterinary clinic that services rescue groups all over Texas, because we knew we wanted to do something that could help animals in the area," Jessie says while holding her own dog, Mia, in her lap, "We're donating a percentage of our sales throughout the year to help TLC in exchange for clothing donations which they accept at their office at 24950 Spring Ridge Drive."

The future's looking bright for Yours Truly, who recently completed a model search and photoshoot for their winter lookbook. "We're so excited to bring a fun, body-positive store to Spring. We know how important it is to be able to try on clothes in person and see yourself in the mirror and know you look good before you make that purchase and we're happy to offer that service!"

Yours Truly is open Wednesday-Friday from 11:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday-Sunday from 10:00am to 6:00pm. In addition to their plus-size resale clothing, they also sell a variety of jewelry, accessories, and pop-culture merchandise from such properties as Pokemon, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics.
