LANHAM, Md. - Sept. 8, 2016 - PRLog -- Writing can be a lonely profession. As a get-around, many writers seek the company of like-minded people in writers' groups. The collaboration, sharing of ideas, and critiques on personal projects are just a few of the reasons people join writers' groups.

The Mitchellville (Bowie) Writers Group started meeting five years ago, as part of the Meetup.com social networking platform. On Sunday, September 11, 2016, the group will celebrate its five-year anniversary at the same time it marks its 100th scheduled gathering.

The group's organizer, Pamela Hart Vines, is a published author who started the group back in September 2011, out of desperation. "I didn't want to drive into the city [Washington, DC] or across the river into Northern Virginia to meet with other writers. I knew there had to be other writers like me here in Prince Georges County," Vines said.

The Mitchellville (Bowie) Writers Group has 204 members as of this writing but only about 1/8 of that number actively participates in the bi-monthly meetings.

"It works out because 12 to 15 people is the perfect-sized group to give and receive thoughtful critiques on the writing submissions."

When asked what the group means to her, Vines said, "The group is everything I've ever hoped for. The members provide invaluable critique on each other's novels and short story projects. I think all my members will agree when I say we've all grown professionally and personally from being part of this group. I'd venture to say it's the best writers' group in the world."

The media is invited to attend the 5-Year Anniversary meeting, watch the writers' group process and interview any the writers. Contact info@trooppr.com for more information or to attend.
