The DiSTI Corporation Set to Host 7th Annual Duffer Charity Golf Tournament

ORLANDO, Fla. - Sept. 8, 2016 - PRLog -- The DiSTI Corporation, a leading provider of graphical user interface software and customized 3D virtual maintenance training solutions, is hosting their annual charity duffer golf tournament to raise funds for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Education for Central Florida K-12 students on October 8, 2016. All funds raised go directly to the CentralFlorida STEM Education Council (CFSEC). The Council strives to develop a unified STEM program to include mass communication, mentorships, and resources for parents, students, and educators.The tournament is a casual family-friendly fun-filled 9-hole event open to all skill levels. This year's goal is to raise $20,000.

In 2012, DiSTI turned their company team-building golf event into an annual charity fund raiser for the CFSEC. The 2015 event raised $14,000 bringing the total contribution amount to nearly $30,000 for K-12 STEM activities, camps, and scholarships in Central Florida.

Since 2014, the Duffer has helped fund 118 teachers from five Central Florida Counties to attend the STEM Teacher Workshop held annually at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC). Teachers work on several hands-on projects and listen to NASA engineers speak about engineering design challenges.

Duffer funds also support the U.S. Army PEO STRI High School Engineering Internship that introduces students to the concepts of technical evaluations and program management through building of the SeaPerch underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). The funds help the camp buy the robot kits.

Over the past two years, the DiSTI Duffer has contributed $5,900 towards the YMCA of Central Florida Summer Zone Scholarship Program. This equates to paying for more than 130 weeks of Summer Zone registrations.

"The DiSTI Duffer tournament has played a huge role in making sure that ALL students can get involved with STEM programming, no matter their financial situation," said Cory Johns, Executive Director, YMCA of Central Florida. "There's no doubt, that this year's contribution from the DiSTI Duffer will have a DIRECT impact on our Central Florida youth and our Y Family could not be more appreciative."

DiSTI invites the public to donate, sponsor, and/or play in the tournament to support the growth and development of STEM education within the Central Florida community. No experience is necessary. The player registration fee is a minimum donation of $45.00.
