DARIEN, Conn. - Aug. 31, 2016 - PRLog -- This September, the Geary Gallery of Darien is proud to present "Impressões de água" ("Impressions of Water") featuring the stunning waterscapes of Brazilian artist and Riverside, CT resident, Elisabeth Aguiar. Her exhibit runs September 1 – 30 at the Geary Gallery located at 576 Boston Post Road in Darien.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and now a resident of Riverside, CT, Elisabeth Aguiar's interest in drawing began in adolescence. Her studies of art and drawing began at the Bela Art Institute and continued at the School of Interior Design where she received her bachelor's degree.

Aguiar continued her studies and earned her master's degree at Pontificia Universidade Catolica, in Rio de Janeiro.

She joined the studio of Roberto de Souza (grand master of the Brazilian School of Belas Artes) where she mastered the technique of oil painting.

Aguiar also attended courses at the Spring Studio in New York City, where she mastered her technique of figure drawing and anatomy using live models.

Her adulthood has been dedicated to her oil paintings, and following in the footsteps of Impressionist artists she admires, including Monet, Renoir and Manet. Aguiar's primary subjects are figures and waterscapes. She often finds inspiration in her grandchildren, and the beauty of childhood has helped her to create some of her favorite pieces of work on linen canvas; her use of free pencil movements add many depths of shade and light.

Aguiar also loves to document the changing seasons in her works. Her fall paintings display the diversity of colors in autumn such as the changing from yellow to caramel, and awakens her passion for the season. The colors of spring help her to create her compositions with subtleness, and the white-blue hues of snow bring a quietness to her winter pieces. Summertime regattas playing in the wind inspire her warm-weather pieces.

Aguiar's work has been seen in numerous exhibitions in Rio de Janeiro, including the Museu Historico do Exercito, Forte de Copacabana, Academia de Belas Artes, Escola Superior de Guerra, Academia Brasileira de Belas, Artes Visuais Clube de Escola Navel, and Coletiva no Espaco Ernani Arte e Cultura.

She currently spends most of her time in Rio and Riverside with her family, painting her pieces and teaching oil and acrylic painting classes, in both private and small group settings.
