NEW YORK - Sept. 1, 2016 - PRLog -- Shapiro Auctions will hold its Fall 2016 auction on September 17th with Important Fine and Decorative Art featuring the works of masters from Europe, the Americas, South Africa, Russia and Asia. With over 400 lots, the auction will encompass periods from Greek and Egyptian Antiquity, to rare Russian pre-revolutionary objets d'art by Fabergé, to Modern & Contemporary international art by sought-after artists such as Fernando Botero, F. N. Souza and Roy Lichtenstein.

Among the works will be early pieces by Liu Kuo-Sung [Guosung], as well as a painting of an Owl by Huang Yongyu, whose 1973 image of the bird brought him international fame. Yongyu will be in the company of works by Chuang Che, Fang Xiang, Vu Cao Dam, Le Pho, Takeuchi Seiho & others. The sale will also present a strong collection of Latin American art, including sculptural works by Jesus Raphael Soto, lush paintings by Jacobo Borges and Rogelio Polesello. Collectors of classical Fernando Botero will be pleased, as the sale will feature a pair of works by the artist, including a quintessential sensuous nude. Another luminary, Francis Newton Souza, will have several works in the auction as well.

American and European artists feature prominently with work such as a royal portrait of Stanislas Leczinski, King of Poland, from the collection of the daughter of King Louis XV of France. There will also be American Primitive artists, including a life-sized portrait of young siblings. Lovers of unusual history will be delighted by the work of Carl Kahler, whose My Wife's Lovers recently became the most expensive painting of cats ever sold, a study for which is in the auction. The sale will also include a poignant portrait of Andre Salmon's young bride by Moise Kisling, and a delicate still life by Kees Van Dongen.

Modern American, European and Russian artists will feature prominently in the sale. Antoine Bourdelle, Auguste Rodin's head assistant and the teacher of Henri Matisse and Alberto Giacometti will be represented by a dynamic sculpture of a laughing woman, La Rieuse. Paul Troubetzkoy, once described by G. B. Shaw as "the most astonishing sculptor of modern times" created numerous portrait sculptures of the titan of literature, Leo Tosltoy, one of which is featured in the auction. Non-Conformist artists such as Ernst Neizvestny will be in the company of numerous other prominent Russian artists, from a double-sided landscape by Isaak Levitan and a seascape by Gavril Kondratenko to the monumental Sportsman by Oleg Tselkov, and Komar & Medlamid's What is Your Favorite Color?

The auction will take place Saturday, September 17 with a full catalogue available on www.shapiroauctions.com. The works can be viewed in the gallery located at 506 East 74th Street, New York, NY 10021, September 10-16, 10am – 6pm, & by appointment.
