VENTURA, Calif. - Aug. 29, 2016 - PRLog -- The 4th Annual Ventura Farm Day will take place Saturday, November 5. On Farm Day, more than 20 Ventura County farms open their doors and invite the public to experience a day of agricultural learning firsthand. This free event for all ages connects the community with its farming neighbors.

"This year, we moved Farm Day from summer to fall," says Mary Maranville, Founder and Executive Director of Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG), the nonprofit that organizes Farm Day each year. "The weather will be cooler, plus, in keeping with the spirit of giving during November, it gives the public an opportunity to say 'thanks' to our hardworking farmers and ag labor force who grow the food we eat."

Participating farms (http://venturacountyfarmday.com/farms.php) and farming operations include Houweling's Tomatoes, McGrath Family Farm, Apricot Lane Farms, Deardorff Family Farms, Gills Onions, Calavo Growers and Petty Ranch. New this year is Driscoll's Reiter Affiliated Companies, the world's largest berry distributor and grower, respectively.

Following the farm tours is a culminating barbeque at the Ventura County Fairgrounds (San Miguel Building) in Ventura. The barbeque is from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and features live country music by Coldwater Canyon, farm-fresh food prepared by Young Farmers & Ranchers, locally-produced craft cocktails, beers, and wines; and kids activities. Barbeque tickets are $40 for adults and $15 for kids under 12. Tickets are now on sale on Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/4th-annual-ventura-county-fa...).

Ventura County Farm Day sponsors include Farm Credit West, Ventura County Agricultural Commissioner, and longstanding farm partners Mission Produce and Pyramid Flowers among others.

Farm Day hours are 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to visit www.VenturaCountyFarmDay.com, select two or three farms that they would like to visit and then map out their day.

For more information about Ventura County Farm Day and to purchase barbeque tickets, go to www.venturacountyfarmday.com or call 805-901-0213.

About SEEAG

Founded in 2008, Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG) aims to help young students and the greater community understand the origins of their food by bridging the gap between agriculture and consumption through its agricultural education programming. SEEAG's "The Journey of Our Food From Field to Fork" program based in Ventura County teaches school children about the origins of their food and the importance of local farmland by providing schools with classroom agricultural education and free field trips to local farms. Through this program, over 15,000 elementary school students in Southern California have increased their understanding of the food journey.
