Reading Scholarship Supports Literacy Education

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Aug. 30, 2016 - PRLog -- Approximately 10% of students in North Carolina are not reading at grade level, including 20-25% of African American and ESL students. Students who are not reading at grade level by the fourth grade are at risk of continued failure.

I'm a Reading Instruction Specialist. I help students of all ages to achieve reading success, no matter what the cause of the reading problem.

Instruction is one one one using the Academic Associates method. Since 2004 I have helped many students, including ESL students, to improve their reading.

This year Berthe M is taking my course on scholarship.

Berthe is refugee from Chad who wants to get her GED. She is a widow and mother of six who had previously never attended school. Berthe has now advanced to reading at third grade level.

Typically the cost of instruction is paid by the student or their parent.  Because some families cannot afford private instruction, however, I have provided many hours of reading instruction at either free or reduced cost.

Therefore to help meet this need, I have established a Scholarship Fund GoFundMe: gofundme.com/2h2cmuc

I am grateful for generous persons who sponsor a student's fees. If you support literacy education, please donate to this Reading Scholarship Fund.
